Has your child experienced trauma? Do you experience behavioral issues with your child? Are you looking for ways to connect with your child in different ways?
Melissa Smith, Licensed Professional Counselor, is here to help you and your child work through and decrease trauma symptoms together. Melissa is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) a type of therapy that involves educating you and your child on the effects of trauma. This therapy will help you and your child work through the trauma and release stress and problems as a result of traumatic experiences.
Melissa has been in the mental health field for 7 years in a variety of settings including private practice, community mental health, and community based services. Melissa specializes in working with depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, ADHD, regulation of emotions, anger management, and social skills. Melissa believes that in order for therapy to be effective that both parents and children should be involved in the therapeutic process. I also collaborate with other professionals including doctors, teachers, day care providers and others in order to ensure an integrated therapeutic experience.
Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley Colorado, and a Masters degree in Counseling from Colorado Christian University in Loveland Colorado. Melissa has a passion for working with children that began with her babysitting, working with children in children’s church, then led to substitute teaching and working in schools as a paraprofessional while obtaining her degrees. Melissa will use cognitive behavioral therapy techniques with you and your child as well as play therapy, mindfulness, behavioral modification techniques and other techniques to lead you and your child on your therapeutic journey with me.
