Are you looking for a therapist who is willing to work with you and your child to address behavioral concerns? Are you curious if your child is thriving in their emotional development? As a caregiver, are you wondering how to communicate with your child so that your words have meaning and your child listens to you?! Caitlan Ledin, child and family therapist, is here to help you and your child develop a positive relationship within a healthy environment that allows your whole family to thrive. Caitlan is a licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with young children who struggle with management of their impulsivities, emotional regulation, anger issues, anxiety, ADHD, trauma history or current trauma and lack in social skills. Caitlan’s approach to therapy emphasizes the involvement of the parents to ensure that all of the adults in the child’s life are on the same page!
Caitlan has years of experience working with children of all ages ranging from educational & child-care settings to summer camp environments. Her work in a community mental health setting on the early childhood family services team for the past three years has reinforced to her how important the early years are in a child’s life. Caitlan’s primary concern at the early stages of therapy is connecting with the child and family – she finds that building rapport through play therapy and learning the child’s emotional language has led to her quickest and greatest successes as a therapist. Caitlan also offers co-parenting or parenting sessions to meet with the caregivers involved in the child’s life and offer them guidance for providing the child the best environment for them to grow in. Caitlan is always open to collaborating with any other professionals or schools that work with the child to help them reach their therapeutic goals.
Caitlan’s education background includes a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Mount Mercy University in Iowa. Caitlan has committed all of her work life to children, she loves being an optimistic energy for children and she does a great job at making the child feel as comfortable as possible. She is currently getting trained in child-parent psychotherapy, which is a therapy for children that help families heal and grow after stressful experiences. In child-parent psychotherapy the family and Caitlan work together in three stages; getting to know the child and family, addressing families’ needs and wrapping up and planning for the future. Caitlan has had a handful of success stories by using child-parent psychotherapy with children who have experienced severe trauma. Caitlan is so excited to meet you and help change you and your child’s life in a helpful way!
